How it happened!
Round 2 saw some upsets alright, with all members of the Dale family recording losses. How good!
Show me the Ioane’s 2018 gameplan of fielding a full team every week went out the window pretty quickly with Shaun Stevenson withdrawing due to injury in the game warmup and Timothy Lafaele leaving the field injured in the 2nd minute of the game. True to the name, the Ioane’s stepped up again and posted identical scores of 43. The star performances came from fresh import Handre Pollard, racking up 46 points playing inside centre and without taking the kicks for goal and George Bridge in a two try effort that saw him bring home 51 points. Finding Chemo playing a prop down expected the big guns to step up this week. Instead they were like the kid that fell out of the tree and just weren’t in it. Jordie Barrett’s fabled return saw him accrue a massive 18 points, and D-Mac slotting back into his Fantasy God fullback position only brought home 24 points. Dylan Leyds was playing out of position at fly half and was really just shovelling the ball along also only ending up with 24 points. Nelson’s bigger efforts came from Seta Tamanivalu racking up 56 points and Augustine Pulu having a big game with 40 points. The rest of his team just looked average.
How about those new look Wylie’s Wabbeleys!!! It was very much a case of the padawan slaying the master, Wylie’s men taking down the a dismal effort by the threepeat this week in what will definitely be the upset of the round (possibly year). The new kid on the block had a relatively new team off the block after attending the trade night this week and making some clutch trades. None more so than picking up Jack Maddocks who topped the round with a three try, 70 point haul! The other big numbers came from other newly imported players, Travis Ismaiel with 44, Ramone Samuels with 42 and rounded out by the dependable Samu Kerevi with 46 and Same Cane continuing a dream start with a 41. Harry was stubborn at the trade night this week and decided to play a backrower down. His lads didn’t do enough to get the win nor over the line for a bonus point, ending up close with 393. Things aren’t looking up either, whilst Richie Mo’unga recorded a monster score of 67 this week, he then proceeded to have his face smashed in by the firetruck, Steven Kitshoff and left the field with a broken jaw. Harry’s other performers were Taleni Seu with 49 and the very dependable Jack Goodhue with 44.
The Most Hope topped round 3 with the highest overall score of 445 whilst his opposition, Something to do with Inagaki, (if you could call it opposition) bottomed with 328. The big numbers were posted by the young chiefs flyer who has been stepping up, Solomon Alaimalo with 52, highly sought after fresh import, Aphiwe Diyanti with 50 and Cody Taylor having a ripper with 49. Not too far behind that were the namesake, Amanaki Mafi with 45, JD Schickerling giving it his all with 45 and surprisingly, the Beast posted a huge 45 points! It wouldn’t be a nabung team without several near death injuries and nabung also secured the two worst scores of the round with Yamada who was knocked out cold with -2 and Hayden Parker who was also seeing stars with -1. Something to do with Inagaki featured plenty of sub par performances and wasn’t helped with star lock, Brodie Retallick withdrawing minutes before kickoff. I’d say that he showed the importance of having a supersub but he really didn’t with Scotty Scrafton coming in and only adding 12 points to this abysmal effort. Pagzy’s highlights included Andries Coetzee with 46, David Havili with 42 and Israel Folau with 34.
The Fully Nabuli men did the best with the namesake sitting on the bench. Blake’s men put down the humus and got stuck into pleasing their fantasy manager. The big performances were spearheaded by a 61 point effort from Malcolm Marx, Joe Powell with 49, new recruit Nanai with 48, Naisarani with 47 and SP Marais with 44. Larry will wanna say Siya Later to this week, definitely the unluckiest bloke in that his team pulled up 1 point short of at least getting him a bonus point on 399. I’d be double checking those scores if I was you Larry. Larry’s team’s highlights included 48 from Sefa Naivalu, 47 from Ross Cronje, 44 from Julian Savea and then 34 from Michael Hooper.
There’s been lots of movement on the table this week with Nelson and Pagzy still not to notch a win in the start of the season. It’s certainly early days yet and with mounting injuries its going to be important to download, listen, rate and review our podcast (haha!), do some research and turn up to the trade night.
