And the rich get richer! Number 1 seed Wylie took apart Larry this week by a massive 112 points, bagging himself an attacking bonus point and stretching his lead at the top of the table. Malcolm Marx is well and truly back in the try scoring circle with a double and 99 points, while Dan du Preez (55), Beauden Barrett (45) and Ben Smith (41) also scored well. Things have gone from bad to worse for Larry, sliding all the way down to last place on the table after another loss. The healthy thing to do at a time like this is to look for someone to blame, well look no further than Waisake Naholo (-19 points). His season average of 11.3 ppg is almost as depressing. Could it be time for him to float on the free agency? Meanwhile Larry did score SOME points. Damian McKenzie is well and truly back in form with 74 points, while Jesse Kriel (44) also bagged a try. This one is in the record books as Wylie 1 - Larry 0.
The Great White Hope 516 defeats 413 Coles-Royce
The opportunity to sure up a top 4 position was riding on this one as 2nd place Blake took on 3rd place Cargie. Each week we can only have one winner, and I know you'll agree with me when I say thank god it wasn't Cargie. Blake bagged a dominant BP win with good scores across the park. 'The Fire Truck' Kitshoff top scored with 54 points, while Luke Whitelock (51), PSDT (49 - 30 tackles!), David Havili (42) and Dillon Hunt (41) backed him up. Meanwhile Cargie now has the lowest score two weeks in a row, and it has him tumbling down the rankings to 5th place, a far cry from the safe 2nd place he found himself in two weeks ago. The Coles-Royce team of smokies was lead by another last weeker, Whetu Douglas (83 points), as Kieran Read is due to make his comeback next week. Michael Hooper (51) was the other shinning light as he paid the price for playing Etzebeth (DNP) under and injury cloud. Blake holds this matchup 1 - 0 in 2019.
White Linen Hides the Sinning 461 defeats 439 Call Me Big Papali’i
Harry was nervous looking across Nsync's lineup this week despite him sitting firmly on the bottom of the table. Rightly so, he went down with a BP loss for getting within 50 points while Nsync scored big with Brodie Retallick (66 points), Jordie Barrett (55), Schalk Brits (46) and Scott Higginbotham (45). The win lifts him back to 7th place, and only a couple wins off of 3rd and 4th place. Harry was cheering early was Melani Nanai (65 points), Wes Goosen (59) and Ardie Savea (42) carved up again, but it all went down hill from there as no one else put up a game changing score. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, had he played Bongi Mbonambi over Folau Fainga'a he'd have bagged the win this week, not even an ominous warning from Nelson was enough for him to back the Springbok. Nsync leads this matchup 1 - 0 over Harry.
Burnin’ Bridges 471 defeats 432 Otere is the new Black
Nabung rockets himself up to third place with a win over a limp Nelson who could only manage 14 starters, to make matters worse new man Josh Goodhue went off injured early as well. Nabung's Burnin' Bridges scored well through his number one pick Izzy Folau (65 points), while fellow outside backs George Bridge (53) and Chris Feauai-Sautia (49) also chpped in. Add to that a big game from Codie Taylor (43) and Jack Dempsey (42) and you can see why his team proved so hard to beat. Nelson on the other hand had Rahboni Warren-Vosayaco (96 points) lead the way, with only Reiko Ioane (57) and Makazole Mapimpi (46) lending a hand. Things could go from bad to worse for our current Spooner Nelson, who will surely be shaking with fear until the Sunwolves lineup is posted this week given that Amanaki Mafi must be a good chance of taking Rahboni's starting 8 jersey. Nabung leads this matchup 1 - 0 over Nelson.
