Otere is the new Black 584 defeats 542 Marximum Louw Groomed Maddogs
Otere is the new Black looked more like a fantasy dream team coming into this one, and they had to be with a match up against the competition front runner Wylie. The bonus point win brings Nelson up to 5th place, and within 5 competition points of fourth place Cargie who suffered his own loss this week. This one pretty much started and finished with Sevu Reece (108 points), dubbed 'the match up killer' by FRD he has been in an unseen vein of form. Anton Lienert-Brown (82) had another big game, as did Braydon Ennor (55), Reiko Ioane (51), Lukhan Salakaia-Loto (48) and Solomon Alaimalo (47). This marks the first time Nelson has bagged the biggest score of the week, something that he'll likely need to replicate several times over if he is to push himself back into finals contention. A tough loss for Wylie this week with the 3rd highest score of the round. Despite the loss he stays on top of the log based off total points alone, something that is only possible because of his 2 bonus point performance. Big games came through Ben Smith (61 points), as well as Toni Pulu (59), Patrick Tuipulotu (46), Tomas Lezana (43), Malcolm Marx (42) and Tumua Manu (41). Last years wooden spoon match up now sits at 1 a piece.
White Linen Hides the Sinning 420 defeats 279 Burnin' Bridges
Let me introduce Nabung's "Burnin' the Bye Bridges". He fielded a 12 man team this week with two of those coming off the bench. Needless to say, Nsync had this one in the bag, all be it with out an attacking bonus point. The win lifts him off the table, and drops Nabung down to 6th place. Nsync's White Linen played with 13 men after being decimated through the week but still manged a dominant win through Dillyn Leyds (68 points), Will Genia (63) and Joe Powell (51). Meanwhile the heroics of Aphiwe Dyanti (63 points) wasn't enough to drag the Bye into a semi decent score. Pair this with Hamish Stewart (-9) and Jackson Hemopo (4) and you have one stanky team. Nsync's win ties the head to head 1 - 1.
Call Me Big Papali'i 508 defeats 498 Coles-Royce
Last years grand finalists were at it again this week. In the first round Harry's 'Call me Big Papali'i' got the chocolates, but this time, Harry prepped for Easter - again taking home the chocolates. The narrow 10 point win come off the back of huge games from Melani Nanai (79 points) and Pablo Matera (78 points). Tom Banks (56) found some form with a solid try, as did Damian de Allende (47). Cargie's 'Coles-Royce' cheered home All Blacks Legend Ma'a Nonu (70 points) as he steam rolled ALB, and Tevita "choo choo" Kuridrani (60) looked the goods. Allan Alaalatoa (49) also went well. Harry continues to take his revenge in this one with him now holding a 2 - zip lead over Cargie.
The Great White Hope 548 defeats 366 Clan Mckenzie
It's getting tight at the top! The bonus point win takes the top three on the table to the same competition points. The other side of the story has Larry (Loser Harry) slide back to 8th and last place. The Great White Hope continues to get maximum points out of Richie Mo'unga (74 points) and Samu Kerevi (67), while new man RG Snyman (69) was on fire as well. David Havili and Lachlan Boshier (59) scored solidly, with solid backup from Emiliano Boffelli (49). Larry's team is fading fast, he needs a big change to get more out of his starting lineup. The men that are worth something are Isi Naisarani (63 points) and Joe Powell (51), but that's where the positives end. Surely Alex Mafi (25), Lomax (10), Franklin (20), Combrinck (22) and Caleb Clarke (12) should all be on the chopping block. Blake has dominated Larry this year, and the match up shows 2 - 0 as a result.
