OG League 2020 - Round 1
The OG League Blog is here for you to follow on our own Fantasy Rugby league and see how the season unfolds!!
Round 1 Fixtures:
(1st Pick) CARGIE v NEWBUNG (5th Pick)
(3rd Pick) HARRY v NSYNC (7th Pick)
(4th Pick) WYLIE v NELSON (6th Pick)
(2nd Pick) AJ v NABUNG (8th Pick)
shAKIRA shAKIRA 431 v 518 That’s Wright, you’re Petti Schatz
Cargie v Newbung
Cargie elected to play 1.5 men down and even if he had an extra man and that man was Hoskins Sotutu (86 points - 2nd top score), who took Akira’s jersey and points (for just this week right guys? … guys?) it still wouldn’t have gotten him over the line with Newbung taking Cargie to school in his Draft Rugby debut by 87 points and top scoring round 1 placing him top of the table! The pick of the litter from team Newbung were Steven ‘the firetruck’ Kitshoff & Herschel Jantjies (both 57 pts and could likely to top their respective positions), exciting young Aussie No. 8 Harry Wilson (55 pts) and Solomon Alaimalo doing nothing most the game but finding himself 54 pts in the last quarter. Also rock solid support from Montoya (44), JOC & Tom Wright (both 41 pts) & Guido Petti (40 pts). All this and he still has Shannon Frizell, Anton Lienert-Brown & Jack Maddocks to inject from the bench. Newbung has come rampaging out of the gates and surely marked himself as the one to beat in 2020. Cargie’s team was in fact ‘Petti Schatz’ and took a deserved loss this week with the 5th highest score in round one. 19 points shy of a bonus point, hopefully playing that 1.5 men down will be worth it and not come back to bite him. Positive signs for shAKIRA shAKIRA were his 2nd pick, Braydon Ennor (76 pts), DHP (67 pts), one weeker Leicester Fainga'anuku (55 points) and Aidan Ross (51 points). Biggest disappointment was Taniela Tupou (3 pts) and biggest mistake was playing Reece Hodge (16 pts) over Andre Esterhuizen (31 pts).
D.Mac & Cheese 512 v 283 Not Straussed About This
Harry v Nsync
It was all truffle Mac & Cheese for Harry because his lads put out a classy performance in round one narrowly missing the top score (by 6 points) and top of the table and this all without namesake DMac. Conversely Nsync probably will (or at least should) be Straussed About how his team went in round one, managing only 283 points and the 2nd lowest score in round one, losing to Harry by a staggering 229 points (or 2.33 David Havili’s!). Yes thats right Harry had the Fantasy Man of the round, David Havili with 98 points absolutely killing it in his first run out of 2020. Supporting acts were Samisoni Taukei’aho (82 pts) who with 2 tries is living up to the secret hype Harry, Nelson & Cargie were sure of, rebels Andrew Kellaway (53 pts) and Isi Naisarani (48 pts) and lastly Stephen Perofranchise having a seemingly terrible game but still coming away with 40 pts. Sync played with 14 men, down an outside back and well someone forgot to tell alot of his other blokes super rugby started this week because they barely showed up. Alot of forgettable scores but the positives were Allan Alaalatoa (43 pts), Anaru Rangi (42 pts) and Curwin Bosch (37 pts).
Sack Good View 435 v 251 Du Toit Like a Tiger
Wylie v Nelson
Wylie was the lucky one with the bye this week, oh wait sorry he played Nelson, my bad. Wylie managed to bag a win with the 4th highest score of the round (only 4 points higher than 5th) but to be fair to him, Nelson really had thrown in the towel in round one as he looks once again to build for next year. Wylie’s front runners were Will Jordan (83 pts), Lachlan Boshier (47 pts), Tomas Cubelli (45 pts), Michael Hooper (42 pts) & his namesake Jack Goodhue with an even 40 pts. Wylie would be bitterly disappointed however with his 1st and 2nd draft picks, Richie Mo’unga (3 pts - could this be his lowest ever score?) and Jordie Barrett (18 pts - the ‘Horrocanes’) and will need them to step up for him next week. Nelson had one player score over 40, Jake Gordon on 41 pts. He also had 2 lads with negative scores, Marvin Orie with -1 pts and Alex Nankivell -3pts. Let’s see if Nelson can make his team yet worse again with this weeks first trade pick!
Rieking Havoc 438 v 352 Team Name TBA
Nabung v AJ
Both team’s lived up to their names this week, Rieko Ioane certainly wreaked havoc with some of that electric form we know he is capable of; 2 tries and 55 pts, whilst like his team name, AJ’s team performance is TBA (the rookie AJ not knowing about the curse of not naming your team pre kick off). Like Rieko, many of nabungs men started the season with absolute flyers, he had a solid foundation with 5 players scoring in the 50s: Jaco Coetzee (56 pts), Rieko Ioane (55), Marnus Schoeman (52), Boffelli (51) & Damian Willemse (50). He was however sorely let down by Courtnall Skosan with - 11 pts (missing 5 of 8 tackles) and also both managers were affected by the ‘Horrocanes’ with both Ben Lam (6pts for nabung) or Ngani Laumape (14 pts - AJ’s first pick) barely touching the pill in round one. Now both teams suffered a few injuries this week but AJ was very unlucky to lose both BPA and Siya Kolisi very early into their fixtures and that really hurt him in the context of how well their teams and replacements did.
Extra Facts:
Best Player David Havili (98 pts - Harry)
Worst Player: Courtnall Skosan (-11pts - Nabung)
Best Supersub: n/a
Best Free Agent: Hoskins Sotutu (Blues - 86 pts)
Biggest Coaching Mistake (player left on the bench): Wylie played Lukhanyo Am (4 pts) instead of Matias Moroni (84 pts - 3rd highest round 1)
Round 2 Fixtures:
Nsync (7th) v (5th) Cargie
Nelson (8th) v (1st) Newbung
Nabung (3rd) v (2nd) Harry
AJ (6th) v (4th) Wylie
