OG League 2020 - The Draft
The OG League is back and firing with two new members for the 2020 Fantasy Super Rugby season. You can read about our member turnover and the league's preseason antics in the blur that was January in our last OG League post.
Deciding the Draft Order
The plan to decide the 2020 season's all important draft order was spectating a random dodgeball night, sinking a few beers and league members being randomly assigned dodgeball players (the good ol number out of a hat). The first dodgeball player to get eliminated each round would bow out that player's league manager and resign them to the lowest pick available 8th pick through to first.
Well dodgeball didn't get quite work out with scheduling but not to worry, the trusty greyhounds were a more than ready and able replacement and we all met up at the pub to let it unfold. All except for Nsync who mysteriously ended up with 7th pick and has just had to take our word for it that's how it all went down... We drew random numbers each round and the bottom placed greyhound eliminated that manager each race and the results were as follows:
1st Pick - Cargie
2nd Pick - AJ
3rd Pick - Harry
4th Pick - Wylie
5th Pick - Newbung
6th Pick - Nelson
7th Pick - Nsync
8th Pick - Nabung

THE SACKO
We had discussed many, many options and received some great suggestions for our 2020 Draft Sacko punishment. Ultimately it came down to a vote between two choices
1) Star in a music video remake to go up on youtube for all time:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v24i9XTJq0&feature=youtu.be
2) A life size cardboard cutout of the OG League 2020 winner holding up the trophy to be prominently placed in a main room (living/lounge/TV/dining) until the 2021 season kicks off. Random audits may be conducted at any time (we even have a drone for this) and if the sacko is ever found to not have the cardboard cutout on display, the Sacko must purchase an additional cardboard cutout and then have 2 on display, if they are hidden, purchase a third and so on! The missus will just have to deal with it.
The Cardboard cutout won by 5 votes to 3.
THE SPOON
We also agreed upon a spoon punishment, yes thats correct we have two punishments. The Sacko is the lowest ranked league member at the end of the regular season but we then go into the finals playoffs for the top 4 (redraft and head to head 1v4, 2v3) and also the Wooden Spoon playoff for the 7th and 8th placed manager. This is to ensure no one trails off towards the end of the season. We decided on the game of thrones Shame Walk as the punishment for the Spoon (as well as having their name engraved on the wooden spoon trophy).

The 2020 DRAFT
As always the OG League draft took place the night before Super Rugby 2020 kicked off, this year landing on Thursday the 30th of January. This of course to allow almost all team lineups to be released ahead of round 1 (naturally we were still waiting on the Stormers & Lions). Former OG League member Pagz, founder of Fiftein Gelato (a proud sponsor of Draft Rugby) hosted the 2020 OG League draft at the Willy Wonka mansion.
For the first time, yours truly (Cargie) was blessed with first pick in the draft and up until the day of, was for all money picking up Damian McKenzie as first pick despite attempts to convince him otherwise. This until DMac was withdrawn in the eleventh hour with groin tightness (adductor strain), after being named at fullback for round 1. I wasn't confident the fantasy god could live up to expectations after coming back from an ACL reconstruction. Now no doubt he'll go prove me wrong!! For comprehensive Super Rugby injury news and analysis be sure to check out the Casualty Ward which is updated daily. Thus I took the next logical choice, the one and only Sevu Reece.
Here is the top 30 of our draft picks, I'll post the entire draft at the bottom of this post. Keep in mind this is a snake draft:
Sevu Reece
Ngani Laumape
Damian McKenzie
Richie Mo'unga
Anton Lienert-Brown
Folau Fainga'a
Liam Coltman
Rieko Ioane
TJ Perenara
Jordan Petaia

All in all another successful draft night and a ripper first round of super rugby and draft rugby. Truly the game they play online in heaven!!!
