The OG League - Super Rugby Pacific 2025
A quick look back to the 2025 season.
2025 was an incredibly exciting year as the OG League entered its 13th year by playing an ALPHA release of the Draft Rugby platform. We used the platform alpha alongside our spreadsheet whilst we continued building out the core features. We did our initial draft on draftrugby.com and by round 3 it was great to be able to run weekly trade sessions through the platform and by round 6 put in your trade preferences!

Draft Order:
In 2025 the draft order was decided by a digital horse race where each league member was assigned a horse and we watched them race over 2 minutes to settle our fates. I believe we used online-stopwatch.com/at-the-races/ or something like it!
As the newcomer and draft rugby rookie absolutely lucked out and bagged himself first pick in the draft!
The Initial Draft:
The league gathered at the pub for the initial draft and were very excited to do so on the draftrugby.com platform. It all went smoothly and you can see the initial draft results below:

Crowning a new champion:
As as much as it pains me to write this, in 2025 we crowned a new champion, Nabung, who secured his first ever championship ring. The regular season was close fought to the final round with Nabung’s team topping the table with 58 competition points after a truly blockbusting season with 8143 total fantasy points. He was almost 1000 fantasy points clear of Wylie in second place with 7264 but only two competition points, Wylie finishing on 56.
A coveted 4th place and finals berth was also contested into the final round where Cargie (48) & Harry (44) went through in 3rd and 4th respectively, Nelson missing out by one competition point on the table with 43, proving that those bonus points really do matter! Remember to play the man.
In our OG League finals series where 1 v 4 and 2 v 3, the top 2 Nabung & Wylie with first picks in their quarter finals re drafts dispatched off their opponents Harry and Cargie so that it was a true 1v2 in the Draft Rugby OG League Grand Final.
After a finals redraft, in a game littered with exciting fantasy outside backs it was actually the forwards that got it done in the end and Nabung took away a low scoring but convincing victory to secure the championship.
Bottom of the log:
In his first year of Draft Rugby it was a brutal reality check by Sean or ‘SeanAI’ or just ‘The Bye’ as he came to be known, choosing to place all of his faith in ChatGPT rather than just watching more rugby. Sean somehow won his first 2 league fixtures of the season and I quote said “this is easy” before proceeding to win no further matches and end the competition with 9 points on the table and 5701 fantasy points.
In the OG League the bottom of the table in the regular season does the punishment but to keep people playing in positions 6 & 7 on the table till the end of the season, we also run a wooden spoon final which is a 7th & 8th place playoff. Whilst he had a good crack, Sean ultimately lost the wooden spoon final to Blake 901-825 and so finished the year with both the league punishment and wooden spoon.
League Punishment:
It was resolved before the season kicked off that the OG League punishment for 2025 would be bowling a perfect 300. Essentially the loser had to bowl a perfect 300 but for every beer they consumed could take 15 points off that total with a maximum of 5 beers allowed to be consumed between games. I.e. Have 5 beers before your first game and you would need to get 225 etc…
The league gathered at the bowling alley and when they asked how many games we wanted to book in for we said we had no idea and could be here all day…
We invited a previous draft member Justin who really should have known better to come down to enjoy the festivities. The reason he should have known better was that he still had an outstanding punishment from coming last a few years back and so upon arrival we informed him he would also be participating in todays punishment. Like a good sport and also largely motivated by this being better than his punishment which was to star in a remake of Miley Cyrus’s wrecking ball music video, he capitulated.
Sean opted for 5 beers and Justin 3 to get themselves going and I believe they scored just over 100 in their first game and we knew we were in for a rager. By the third game we started making new offers that would make all the difference and also ensure that we a) wouldn’t be there all day and b) wouldn’t get throw out. We offered that if they put their shoes on their opposite feet and turned their jeans inside out, we’d take another 15 pins off the total.
They both eventually got the job done and good fun was had by all.
